My Urban Project...week 3.
My Urban Environment Project, I'd like think has gone reasonably well up to now. At first like nearly everyone I talked to, I found it quite daunting and am just about getting to grips with it.
I was quite happy with me original areas to explore: Looking at the city through the eyes of a child, patterns and textures in the city and how the contrast to the rural environment and finally exploring Limerick city in the past and how it differs from present Limerick city.
I've mostly taken a few pictures of things that I found appealing and found that delving into Limerick's city history was a really good direction as I've always had a love of history anyway. I was particularly interested in looking at medieval Limerick. But have now broadened it to 17th century Limerick also. I have taken drawings and rubbings of the orginal wall that surrounded Irish town and am currently rejigging a town map and tranforming it into a 17th century map around the time of the first siege of Limerick.
I'm particularly interested in St. Johns castle and St. Mary's cathedral especially and plan to make studies of them in more detail this week. Looking at the stone work and architecture etc.
